Shutter Headboard

These shutters became a "headboard" complete with "art" for my teenaged nephew.

·   Bought three 60” x 66” old shutters at salvage yard. These will be used as a “headboard” for a full-sized futon. Liked the old beat up look and decided to keep them original.

·   It did test positive for lead paint so after cleaning, I coated it with two coats of clear matte Nansulate lead encapsulation paint.  It’s like painting with Elmer’s glue, but it works well. http://www.nansulate.com/nansulate_LDX.htm

·   On the back, brackets were attached to hold the doors together.

·   On top we used a 40” Z-Bar to hang.  http://zbarhanger.com/

·   For changeable “art”, I measured and glued empty cd cases and filled with changeable photos.

·   Thanks to husband who helped with heavy lifting, tools and drilling.  Could not have done it by myself
