Chippy, old look, new material. It all worked out well for a customer with a fab eclectic taste!
Beds to benches! This is what also spun out the idea for the porch swing I did! However slanting the back on them for the swing. You can find that on my profile page here if you haven't seen it yet. However these make great pieces when you stumble across a 3/4 bed that is impossible to find bedding for. Why not make a bench? Put some baskets underneath for storage, put it in the sunroom and enjoy your time with a great view and a cup of tea! If you need ideas for foam, ask friends if they have any old mattresses kicking around. Quite often the older mattresses were pure foam, and you can cut it down to size with an electric carving knife or a jig saw with a longer blade on it. If it's for yourself and you dn't mind hiding the jagged edge at the back of the piece, a bread knife works as well. Re-use some sheets for material - or simply get 5 yards from the fabric store when it goes on sale. I used pl 3000 to adhere the foam to the backing and simply stapled the materials on. If you are handy with re-upholstering, these could look even more amazing!!! Be inspired and make one today! If you cut the foot board in half and turn it around, you can lock the ends into the headboard and then use the bed rails across the centre for the bench sturdiness. Then just add a piece of plywood to the bottom of the foam and Bobs your uncle!
